Clementina Series: Nat Ruben
Building a Career Foundation in Retail, with Nat Ruben
Natalie is a senior at Northeastern University, a former Customer Success intern at Joor, and the founder of Nat About Town. Beyond this, she is a long-time muse to Clemente. Since forever, our co-founders have looked up to Nat’s authentic style, charming energy and go-getter mindset. After spending time together at our New York trunk show, we invited Nat to share a bit about her experience in building the founding steps of her career in retail.

Tell us the story behind Nat About Town. How did it start and what are your hopes for the future with this project?
“Nat About Town first began in 2016 as a recollection of all of my outfits (some were very questionable!). It went on like that until my first year of college (2018) where I took a little break from it because I felt I was not exuding anything meaningful or teaching anyone anything. --- I then started it up again and changed the whole idea behind it with the goals of communicating something meaningful and impactful to my community, to be able to impact at least one person.
For the future, I hope that Nat About Town grows as an educational reference and index, very excited for what is to come!”
We appreciate how you keep inspiring others to join the #ClementeCircle! How did you discover the brand and what is your favorite part of Clemente?
“I found Clemente through Instagram and I was very inspired by the uniqueness of each piece and the mission behind the brand. My favorite part of Clement is how versatile (hence, sustainable) it is. I really love the idea behind the start of Clemente and how it is led, created, and inspired by powerful, beautiful, and smart women”.
How do you define success? What does having a “good day” mean for you?
“Success is about perception. To me, succeeding means accomplishing a goal or task that has a positive outcome or influence on the people and world around me. Personally, I identify a good day as one that consists of completing my 15 minute skincare routine, a good cup of coffee, and a to-do list”

What does a sustainable wardrobe look like to you?
“My take on a sustainable wardrobe is one that is full of good quality basics that you can dress up or down and some designer investment pieces that will never lose value in the future”.
How have professional experiences in companies such as Joor shaped your early career?
“Since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to be a part of the fashion industry, but I never really knew where to start or what field of fashion to dive into. Thus, I feel that professional experiences in companies that are changing the industry, such as JOOR, are extremely important in molding what my potential fashion future will look like as it allows me to gauge what I like and what I don’t like about the job”.

What piece of advice do you give to someone who is passionate about the retail industry and wants to start transforming this passion into a professional career?
“One piece of advice I would give to someone interested in the retail industry is that experience is key. It is an evolving industry and the more you know about it, the better you will understand how it works and how to be at the forefront of it”.
